Even after such long years of Independence of our country the persons with disabilities are amongst the most marginalized section of the society. One of the biggest challenges being faced by the policy planner and implementing agencies is to provide rehabilitation services to the unreached persons with disabilities living in rural area and urban area. Although most of the efforts have been made so far in this regard still the benefits are not reached to the unreached as expected. The so-called provisions do not provide scope and ample opportunity to every body according to his/her needs.
Service to mankind is service to God', keeping this in mind the Rural Organization for Social Elevation (ROSE) came into force in the year 1996-97. This organization has been committed to the cause of persons with disabilities and to provide themequal opportunities with their full participation.
Since inception this organization has been implementing various welfare and developmental programmes i.e. Integrated Education for the Disabled Children(I.E D.C.) Establishment of special school for the intellectually challenged and capacity building of teachers and parents and removal of architectural barriers for the children / persons with Loco motor impairment, Procurement of disability certificates in Mayurbhanj district of Orissa State. Residential & Day Care Center for M.R.C.P,Autism and Multiple Disabled, Vocational Training Center for Disabled Students and Training of Caregivers (National Trust).
The organization organize two awareness programmes for the year 2010-11 that is District Level Sensitization Programme for Community Members , Parents of childrens with M R. CP MD and Autism and Anganwadi Workers.
Thee organization (ROSE) had taken initiative for formation of self help groups in Mayurbhanj District. 8 (eight) S.H.Gs. were formed for normal categories of women and 8 SHGs for person with disabilities. The organization has also taken initiative for linkage of the groups with micro finance.
As the economic bright conditions help to build up confidence and capacity of the persons with disabilities for self-reliance, this Organization organized prevocational training programmes for the intellectual disability.
Survey and Identification of the persons with disabilities is a continuous programme of the ROSE.A door to door survey campaign and village corner meetings were organized in 6 Blocks i.e. Khunta, Barsahi, Kuliana, Bangiriposi, Barpada and Gopabandhu Nagar- blocks of Mayurbhanj District for facilitating identification survey of children and persons with disabilities on composite area approach basis.
